Iron & Ice
A frozen waterfall locked mid-pour beneath a century-old iron bridge. Shot on a single exposure on one of the coldest mornings of the year. The kind of scene that exists for hours before the light shifts and it is gone forever.

Thaw
A duck lifts from dark water between snow shelves — wings caught mid-beat on film. You cannot plan a moment like this. You can only be there, patient, with a loaded camera. This frame was one of three on that roll worth keeping.

Below the Dam
Shot tight on churning foam below a dam spillway, this image reads almost as abstraction — dark water and white chaos balanced across the frame. No crop, no manipulation. What the film saw is what you get.

January Wall
A stone wall built by hands long gone, now buried in January snow. Ice has formed along the base. The tonal range in this negative is exceptional — every stone reads individually, every shadow holds detail. A quiet image that rewards a second look.

Eye of the Grain
A century of weathering has opened a knot in this barn plank into something that looks back at you. Filmed in close, the wood grain radiates outward like growth rings. This is what film renders that digital cannot — texture you can almost feel.

The Old Work
An antique hay rake leans against a tree beside an old barn — its iron geometry intersecting with bare branches in the foreground. Someone made this machine by hand. Someone used it for decades. Film is the right medium for a subject like this.

Mid-January
Mallards shelter on an exposed rock shelf against a snow-capped stone wall. Still water mirrors the ice above. There is something deeply calming about this scene — life persisting quietly in the cold. One of the most immediately liveable images in the collection.

The Narrow
Looking straight down at a dark ribbon of moving water cutting through deep snow. The perspective flattens the scene into something nearly graphic — a study in black and white that film grain makes tactile. Striking on a wall at any size.

First Snow
Pine needles sharp against a soft blown-out winter sky. The shallow depth of field was achieved in-camera — no post-processing, only optics and light and silver chemistry. Simple, timeless, and at home in almost any space.

The Long Winter
A tall pine trunk anchors the left of the frame while snow-covered steps and iron railings recede into the distance. Shot mid-winter in flat even light that renders every surface with equal weight. Calm, still, and a little melancholy.

The Clearing
A covered porch frame opens onto a forest clearing where a second cabin sits half-hidden in spring trees. The dappled light and layered depth give this image a sense of discovery — like you have stumbled onto something private and still.

Three Hinges
Three iron strap hinges climb a weathered barn door — each one hand-forged, holding fast through decades of seasons. The wood grain behind them is a landscape in itself. A companion piece to Eye of the Grain, equally compelling at close range.

The Work
Silver & Grain was born from a simple belief — that the most honest images are made slowly. Every photograph in this collection was captured on film, developed by hand, and printed from the original negative without digital intervention of any kind.
Film is a demanding medium. There is no delete button, no instant preview, no room for carelessness. Each frame costs time, chemistry, and intention. That discipline produces images with a depth and warmth that digital photography has spent decades trying to recreate — and never quite has.
When you hang one of these prints on your wall, you are not hanging a file output by a machine. You are hanging a record of a real place at a real moment — a moment that will never come again. Every edition is strictly limited. Once a print sells out it will not return.
